The Journal for Civil War Websites

There quite a few websites for the American Civil War ranging from offical state, local, battlefield, reenactment, regiments and many oher numerous amateur sites throughout North Carolina. Here is few of the better ones for information.

Official North Carolina History and Civil War Sites

http://www.northcarolinahistory.org/
It is a basic encyclopedia site on history of the state of North Carolina. I found it can have useful information from time to time, but the main menu is categorized by letter and sometimes difficult to find specific information.
http://www.nccivilwar.com/
North Carolina Tourism is great for finding a Civil War site in North Carolina but is limited to only the better or the well-known areas. It gives a small summary of the event under the site. Also will direct you to Civil War trails maps and other maps. It only gives the details of the battle, but not much on any campaigns.
http://www.nccivilwar150.com/
Commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War in North Carolina, 2011-2015. This site is one of the better sites for information of events, key leaders and timelines. Sometimes a little difficult to navigate, but also include local and state events.
http://www.civilwartraveler.com/EAST/NC/
A site to help the civil war traveler plan his or her trip and breaks in down by campaigns (i.e. Carolina Campaigns and Coast defense). I’m not sure if this site is owned or maintained by the state that you are in, because it covers many states.

CSS Neuse websites

http://www.nchistoricsites.org/neuse/history.htm
The life of the CSS Neuse gives the full detailed story of plan, design, constructions and ultimate destruction of CSS Neuse. This is very good site and is very helpful for finding information on all North Carolina Civil War sites
http://www.nchistoricsites.org/neuse/ny-herald.htm
The Destruction of the CSS Neuse – another detailed story of the CSS Neuse on the same website but the links provide you details and maps of the area and units and people and the movements of the CSS Neuse and its many trails
http://www.visitkinston.com/attractions.html
Kinston - Attractions - CSS Neuse Replica is on display in the middle of the city of Kinston. It has information of other attractions like the Caswell Museum and a visitor’s center in the south part of the city near the area for Wyse Fork Battle.

Ironclad websites

http://www.civilwarhome.com/ironclad.htm
An ironclad website provides a lot of general information on this type of gunboats. It does cover ironclad battles and the ships involved, but only by the name of the battle. If you don’t know the name of the battle it might take you a while to find what you are looking for.
